TITL E: Nuclear Mechanical Engineering Drafter (735)
ANTICIPATED NEED IS THROUGH THE REST OF 2017.
PREFERENCE IS FOR LOCAL CANDIDATES.
The Mechanical Drafter will be a member of the
Client Engineering Group which is responsible for generating the design and technical requirements for a small modular ALWR nuclear steam supply system and balance of plant systems. Utilizing Solidworks, Autocad, and/or Siemens NX, the Designer/Drafter will work alongside engineers to develop 3D models and 2D drawings for reactor systems, piping components and support structures as well as the FEA and CFD analysis geometry of said components.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Generate 3 dimensional parts and assemblies with guidance of senior personnel.
- Create 2 dimensional line drawings and figures for reports.
- Prepare process flow diagrams and process and instrumentation diagrams.
- Prepare geometries with accuracy and cleanliness using best CAD practices.
- Write design documentation to accompany engineering reports and studies detailing geometry.
- Prepare and review engineering specifications, drawings, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the reactor and plant systems.
- Prepare, check, and manage drafting standards and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES :
A minimum of an Associate’s degree in drafting technology or pre-engineering from an accredited school.
A minimum of two years experience in mechanical design and drafting of piping, pressure vessels, or structures. Familiar with drafting standards. Familiarity with CAD modeling tools including Solidworks, AutoCAD, Siemens NX, SmartPlant 3D, and SmartPlant P&ID. History with other CAD plantforms and CAD file management a plus. High level skills with other CAD packages such as CATIA, Pro-E, Microstation, or Inventor may substitute for knowledge of the other packages. Familiarity with the ASME Code desirable.
Industry Requirements :
Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
Overall Job Knowledge and Performance:
In-depth understanding of CAD tools, principles, and basic drafting practices. An ability and motivation to learn new software and skills.
Excellent technical writing skills. Good communication, computer, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage complex design tasks with multiple work phases.
Quality Assurance :
Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
