PERM:  Nuclear Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer 

 
 
 

Description

 

POSITION SUMMARY:   Reporting to the Manager, I&C and Electrical, this position is responsible for design engineering of safety related and non-safety related digital instrumentation and control (I&C) systems. They will work closely with NSSS systems and components groups by providing I&C solutions for the TEG Client small modular reactor. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Applies high level engineering principles, techniques and practices in the preparation and/or review of I&C System design work products such as, one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, system and equipment requirement specifications, system design documents, engineering studies, engineering calculations, engineering reports, hazard analyses, and Inspections, Tests, and Analysis Acceptance Criteria (ITAAC).
  2. Understands and applies a rigorous systems engineering process to design and development activities related to software and hardware engineering.
  3. Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work. Supports preparation of work scope and schedule for assignments.
  4. Compile functional and design requirements into component and system design with consideration for system interfaces, manufacturability, serviceability and in-service inspection.
  5. Develops department R&D needs and contributes to methodology development.
  6. Interprets scope and project requirements and develops design alternatives. Plans, organizes, and performs complex assignments in a team environment.
  7. Applies experience in the design, testing and installation of process control and automation systems.
  8. Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers. Serves as a technical lead for the design of systems, structures, and components. Responsible for results and engineering oversight.
  9. Creates formal networks and may serve as an internal and/or external spokesperson for the organization regarding specialized projects or programs.
  10. Provides oversight and direction to key suppliers of I&C systems and components. Also, coordinates design interfaces with other disciplines and partners associated with the I&C systems.
  11. Interfaces with regulatory agencies concerning I&C design principles of assigned I&C systems including supporting audits, RAIs, and meetings.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES :

  • Education : A minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering or a technically related discipline.
  • Experience : Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in electrical or I&C design, analysis, or engineering. Required skills and/or experience include:
    • Commercial or naval nuclear power, in a design and/or systems engineering organization.
    • Experience in digital software and hardware engineering using a systems engineering process in the design of plant systems.
  • Industry Requirements : Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.  
  • Quality Assurance : Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 preferred.
